Bible IV: Prophets, Psalms, &Wisdom Literature continues the interpretation of
the developing institutions and traditions of ancient Israel and the
examination of the varying ways in which the Hebrew people understood crucial
events in their history as acts of God.
It includes a focus on key texts of the Old Testament as scripture, as
well as historical and literary documents.
Attention will be given to the history of the Israelites following the
fall of the Northern Kingdom, prophecy in the exilic and post-exilic periods,
the wisdom literature, the liturgical literature, and the development of
apocalyptic literature.
Students will be able to:
1. Understand the origin, history, and use of these forms of biblical literature among God’s people.
2. Exegete these forms of biblical literature.
3. Apply exegesis to preaching, other pastoral responsibilities, and issues of the present day.
